Depends. You can really make it at whatever level you want. If you don't like spicy make sure you get the gochujang marked mild. But I've made kimchi jjigae (not this recipe though maangchi's recipes are always top notch) and it was mild enough for my husband who likes what I term 'white people' spicy.

Another note, Maangchi does have a lot of Western followers and so she does have a tendency to adapt a bit to Western tastebuds, but when she doesn't, she does let you know and often provides tips for alternatives
