Instant Pot Problem

My Instant Pot frequently refuses to pressurize. Yes, the lid is on securely. Yes, the valve is closed. Yet, about every other use, it just heats up, I get no pressure, the little red plug does not rise into place. And this usually leads to a FOOD BURN alert. Am I doing something wrong? What can I do to remedy this?

Are you using enough liquids? Minimum is typically 1-2 cups but can vary depending on the food

How old is your seal ring? Ours wore out after a few years (replacements are easy, thankfully)

How’s the seal? Mine moves around sometimes and then it doesn’t seal and u get the burn food alert

To echo others your sealing ring might need replacement. But also, they do slip and create gaps. Every time I use mine I double check the seating of the ring and tuck it into the correct position.

You may need to buy a new sealing ring. I keep several new ones in my cabinet with my IP.

You probably need to replace the seal. I have to press down on my lid to get them to seal sometimes

there could be many possible causes but one of the cheapest and easiest is to replace your seal you can usually find a three pack online for $15.

You need to make sure there is enough liquid in the pot. At least 1 cup of water, broth, etc when you are cooking with pressure.

I almost always have to press down on my lid to get it to seal also...I wait for it to sound like it's ready to pressurize, push down on the lid, and then it works. Annoying but effective.

I’ve had it happen and have removed the seal, I’ve also had it happen with not enough liquid. The prior post might help you.

Jim, I got a "food burn" alert one time I was trying to make a pot roast and my instant pot was full to the top. I cancelled the process before it was fully pressurized and removed some of the food and the food burn alert didn't come back on then.
