What should I use instead of black pepper in this homemade bacon recipe?

I am allergic to black pepper and was wondering what it did in this recipe, flavoring, deter flies ect... also what I could use instead?

Hi Karri! Black pepper’s just there for flavor, so you can skip it or try white pepper, paprika, or a mild chili powder instead for a similar touch.
