What can I use instead of black pepper in this recipe?

I'm allergic to black pepper and was wondering what it did in this recipe, flavor, deter flies, ect... also what I could use instead?

I found this helpful & agree with Rebecca about the cayenne. A dab will do it lol

You can also use paprika, which is red pepper. If it's only black peppercorn you're allergic to.

Sorry, didn't see this is for bacon. You can just leave it out too. It's not essential for bacon. It's like the deli meat you buy with cracked black pepper.

Grains of paradise, pink peppercorns, and ground papaya seeds are excellent substitutes for black pepper. You can also use other spices like green peppercorns, white peppercorns, coriander seeds, or Sichuan peppercorns, which aren't true peppers but offer a similar taste and pungency.

It's just for flavor, probably to help balance the sweetness of the sugar. If there’s any spice you usually use to give your food a little kick, you can probably just use a small amount of that and be fine.

Pimientos, three sweeter kind, not Mexican chili or Reaper. Italian peperoncino. In alternative, totale change, use fennel seeds, delicious

I found that this situation comes up just mince up a radish add to mixture. It gives peppery taste without peppers.

Any season should work.
