1. Let meat come to room temperature while covered up
2. Heat cast iron to 400⁰ for about 20 min
3. Put half a stick of butter in the pan with minced garlic, melt it. put the steaks in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes.
4. Pull it out. Set oven to broil. Put a few pads of butter on top, spoon over some of the melted butter. Add a few sprigs of thyme.
5. Broil for 2 minutes. Pull it out and check the center. It should be pushing past medium rare. I you want it darker throw it back in the oven at 400⁰ and check every 2 minutes until you're happy.
6. S&P down the hatch.
This is my preferred method to cook any steak.
