I've heard of the beans on toast in the UK but haven't tried it yet....I'm also intrigued by the British breakfast platters

beans on toast is a very basic meal in the UK, if you enjoy beans then you'll probably like it also the toast becomes soggy with the tomatoe sauce. But you can spice it up by adding some grated cheese or even some sausage through it 😊

When I worked in Durham, my colleagues were from across the region, from Teesside to Northumberland. One of my colleagues decided to do a snap survey of in which areas cheesy baked beans on toast was more popular (south), or cheesy chips (mmm) (north). He then did another survey to map cooking methods: melting the cheese into the beans while cooking was more common in the south, while us northerners added the cheese at the end. Talking of the region, check out chicken parmo, which is a regional delicacy. Back to the topic, though, baked beans are a good source of protein, just be careful about the sauce, eg sugars etc. Heinz is best, if you can get that. And baked beans pretty much go with or on any food group imaginable.

I’m Mexican and we have a variation that I’ve always really enjoyed (probably since I grew up eating it, to your point Anna!) We use freshly refried beans (can’t recommend fresh ones enough, I think cans are a bad idea) and add mozzarella cheese on french bread and then put it in the toaster oven until cheese is golden.
