I’m almost 60. It reversed my borderline type 2 diabetes, gave me more energy and helped with weight loss. My cholesterol went up the first 6 months, which is common, then it went down to better than ever with outstanding hdl the good stuff. I started thinking clearer. Started dancing again. So I’m a huge fan of keto. My docs watched all my reading closely and were pretty impressed. Strangely, I had a strange blood issue with low platelets and mch I think it’s called. For years. That corrected. But just make sure you don’t go crazy and start thinking you can eat 3000 calories because you are keeping your carbs low. I still keep my calories around 1600 and net carbs under 20 and use MyNetDiary app to track everything I eat or drink. Here’s the thing, eating keto I’m always satisfied and never hungry, unlike eating sugars and processed low calorie diet where you are always starving. If I feel actual hunger, I know I messed up somehow. That’s when I check my urine for ketones to see if I’m still in ketosis or if something threw me out. I’ve learned I cannot eat low carb bread from the store. Most likely the wheat products in it. Everyone is different. It could be anything that on its face value looks good but your body isn’t a fan. Anyway, I wish your mom the best on her journey. I would highly suggest downloading the free Whisk app too. I keep all my recipes organized in collections, I can import recipes from the web and watch the keto groups in the app for news recipes, search out recipes. It’s fantastic. The biggest reason people fail on keto is boredom. They eat bacon, eggs and steak all the time then get bored with it. If you can cook a little, the world is your oyster. Tonight I’m having sweet and spicy pork chops with grilled oiled and cavenders seasoned zucchini and squash slices. Maybe some stuffed mushrooms too. Or just a good spinach salad. I’ve discovered I love to cook since I went keto 2 years ago!
