Eggs in smoothies!?!?

sooo... is it ok to put raw eggs in a smoothie? I've always heard that eating raw eggs in cookie dough was bad but...

So, the reason raw eggs are a no-no is because of the potential of salmonella. If you are buying pasteurized eggs (any eggs from the grocery store), the chances of salmonella are much lower. I would absolutely avoid backyard eggs, and even farmers market eggs, as they are not pasteurized, and the chances of salmonella are much higher. To me, eggs in a smoothie just sounds like it would be gross. But from a food-safety perspective, the chances of a healthy individual getting salmonella from raw eggs is pretty low. https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/communication/salmonella-and-eggs.html

I have wondered the same thing! Also often raw egg whites are used in cocktails…. But maybe the alcohol burns away anything? There may be a difference in the types of eggs you use, as well… curious to see what others think!

I believe eggs are patched in some way now which way back when they weren't and created more risk.. However if you're going to do that I would suggest only using really fresh eggs. But I could be wrong so I would Research.

anybody remember those action movies from like the 80s where at some point the "hero" drinks a glass of raw eggs, it was a common scene back then.

also, if memory serves me correctly I think old milkshake recipes called for raw egg, that was pretty good actually.

I’m always worried about salmonella when making royal icing, so i buy pasteurised egg powder! I mix it with water and it makes egg whites! 🥚

plenty of cultures eat raw egg. Raw flour is the bigger danger of cookie dough.
