What should I eat to help with insulin resistance?

I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance. I am a bit overweight. I would like to lose some weight and eat healthier to manage my condition. Any suggestions on what can I consume?

I would suggest speaking with a nutritionist. Most insurance plans will cover (2) half hour sessions or one (1) hour session per year. Try to limit your carb intake. Try a whole food plant based diet. If this isn’t something you can do long term consider doing it for 4-6 weeks to get a jump start on your health. Make small attainable changes. Don’t think change will occur overnight. That’s unrealistic. You can make changes and you can improve your health. Learn how to read food labels. I lost 50 pounds in one year and every day I make small changes. I’m not where I want to be health wise but I am getting there. Good luck to you!!

I eat on a keto plan and my A1C has gone from 9.1 to 5.3 and I've lost 21 lbs since May.

When I was first diagnosed I was surprised to see how many vegetables are high in carbs. Not only should you limit fruits, starches like grains and flour but you have to watch the starchy vegetables. Some sad surprises for me were carrots, all beans except green beans, tomatoes and onions. I'm not saying eliminate them just be aware of how much you are consuming.

Red meat is linked with insulin resistance. I've found going for fish or plant based meals helps. Plus getting more exercise.

Thanks, guys. I will definitely consult with a nutritionist, my doctor recommended me a trusted one. And yeah, I know it can not happen overnight :/ But from my understanding, it's healthier to lose weight step by step. @Nerrissa I share your sadness regarding carrots

We are really enjoying watching Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube. He has some really great information regarding insulin resistance and dietary changes. We have been doing these changes and are seeing results. We even allow one cheat day a week! Wishing you the best. You can do this!
