Do you eat avocados and figs?

I've read online that due to some beekeeping processes avocados and figs are not considered vegan. What's your opinion on that?

So that is kinda ridiculous in my opinion. The Vegan Society, who created the words ‘vegan’ and ‘veganism’ define it as “a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” So most commercially available fruits and vegetables and grains are produced with commercial beekeepers. Nature simply didn’t evolve to produce food on a factory scale. So unless we would like to see the human population be reduced by about 6 billion due to starvation this notion of bee exploitation will have to be overlooked. As for blood avocados it is unfortunate that the drug cartels have branched out into legitimate businesses and cornered the avocado market in the USA. But honestly there again we allow many cartels in the food industry such as Dole, Sunkist, Zespri and Monsanto which if you look at their histories probably have as much if not more blood on their hands. So we do the best that we can when we can but we have to eat. I do have an avocado tree in my back yard though so free avocados much better anyway lol

I heard about that in one of the QI episodes and I was quite shocked with that discovery. Honestly, I'm eating avocados and figs, cause I figured that they exaggerated a bit with that info, since they knew that it will affect many vegans and it will definitely be quite interesting :D I would really like to hear what other people think about it in this community, thanks for raising this question Art

No actually wine and beer is not vegan because they use clarifying agents that contain processed fish products. Nothing do with bees.

I had no idea! I have been trying to find avocadoes that are not from Mexico as "blood avocadoes" are coming from cartels' now ... but it looks like there is no avocadoes that are not from there (not in Canada at least) so I have reduced my consumption to an "occasionally" from a staple

To make it more confusing not all beer and wine manufacturers use those fish containing clarifying agents and must do not specify if they do anyway.

I was very confused when I heard about Vegan wine couple of years ago so was trying to guess for more than half an hour why wine is not vegan. Turned out it was because of bees. Still mindblown :D

Also I heard that I think wine sometime contain eggs which make it not vegan.

As for figs, I'll continue to eat it because figs have a symbiotic relationship with wasp. I'm not killing them or anything. I don't think us eating figs are causing more harm. Also we're not eating the wasp, it gone before the figs are mature. Plus, I've learned that one can grow figs (depend on the types) without the wasps.

For Avocado, I can't remember what was said about it. I mean some would claim that almonds are not vegan but I felt all of this is a reminder of balance instead of exploiting one type of food. I mean it the circle of life unless it was disrupted.
