Room Temperature Butter

I sometimes forget to put the butter out of the fridge. If a recipe calls for room temp butter, is it actually ok to melt it in the microwave instead? Will it make a difference?

I won't make any difference if you do not burn it. Melt it carefully and check it often during melting.
