Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.

In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, and continue to beat until well incorporated. Mix in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix just until the batter is smooth.

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar in a bowl. Let them macerate for about 30 minutes to release their juices.

In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

To assemble the cake, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread half of the whipped cream on top, then layer with half of the strawberries. Repeat with the second layer, topping with the remaining whipped cream and strawberries.
