Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
Step 2
Cut the butter into small pieces and place into a food processor with the sugar,egg, and flour. Pulse until a crumb is formed.
Step 3
Remove from the food processor and press half of the crumble mixture into the base of the lined brownie pan covering the bottom.
Step 4
Core and slice the apples, then layer thin slices of apple over the base layer.
Step 5
Sprinkle the five spice powder and lemon zest and juice over the apples.
Step 6
Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture over, covering the top apple slices, then sprinkle the Demerara sugar over the top.
Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes until the apple is just cooked and the top layer is golden and crunchy.
Step 8
Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes before removing from the brownie pan and portioning.
Step 9
Delicious hot with custard or cold with clotted cream.
