Instructions

Step 1
Add the Oreos to a food processor or blender. Pulse until you have fine crumbs. (Be sure to use REGULAR Oreos, not double-stuff, or the proportion of cookie-to-cream will not work out.)
Step 2
Remove 1/4 cup of the crumbs and set aside. These will be used for the topping.
Step 3
Add the cream cheese. Pulse until combined.
Step 4
Prepare a medium or large-sized cookie tray by lining it with wax paper or parchment paper.
Step 5
Scoop out small portions of the mixture, and roll into small balls. I find the larger end of a melon-baller is perfect. Place on the prepared cookie tray.
Step 6
Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. (You want the balls to be thoroughly chilled, so they keep their shape when dipped in the hot chocolate. If it's a really warm day, work in small batches or use the freezer as necessary.)
Step 7
Remove from fridge, and dip each ball into a bowl of melted chocolate. I find it is easiest to lift the ball from the chocolate bowl using 2 forks. Allow to cool & harden on the cookie tray.
Step 8
Before the chocolate sets, use the crushed Oreos that were set aside to sprinkle on top. (This may happen fairly quickly!)
Step 9
To make the finished Oreo balls neater, use a toothpick to draw a "breaking" line around each Oreo ball, as needed.
Step 10
Once completely cool/set, remove the excess chocolate. Store in the fridge.
Step 11
Note: Mix it up by using different kinds of chocolate; by using different kinds of cookies, such as blonde Oreos; or by replacing the cream cheese with 1 SCANT cup of peanut butter, or Nutella.
