Instructions
Preparation
Step 1
Wash and soak rice and dal in a 2:1 rice to dal ratio and keep it aside. Soaked stuff cooks easily and combines well.
Cooking
Step 2
Heat oil or ghee in a kadhai
Step 3
Put in a teaspoon of jeera seeds,
some peppercorns, a few kashmiri chillis, and half a teaspoon of hing in the hot oil.
Step 4
Once the tadka crackles put in the soaked rice and dal mixture into the kadhai and mix.
Step 5
Add tumeric and mix. Add salt. Make sure the salt is enough at this stage so it soaks into the dal and rice.
Step 6
Transfer the mixture to pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles
