For another take on this crumble, mix salted caramel spread into the apples and crumble some crunchy, oaty biscuits (such as Hobnobs) into the topping.

Crumble topping
Instructions
Step 1
Rub a small amount of the butter all over the inside of the slow cooker pot.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, toss the apples with the sugar and cornflour until evenly coated.
Step 3
Transfer the apples to the pot of the slow cooker, covering the base. Dot the biscuit spread over the apples.
Step 4
To make the topping, combine the butter, sugar and flour in a bowl, rubbing it all together lightly with your fingers to form a sandy mixture. Fold the crumbled biscuits into the mixture. Scatter the topping over the layer of apples.
Step 5
Cover the pot with the lid, positioning a clean tea towel between the pot and the lid to absorb some of the steam and stop the topping from becoming wet.
Step 6
Set the slow cooker to 'cook' mode, then turn it either to high and cook for 2 hours 30 minutes or to low and cook for 5 hours.
