GERD

I have acid reflux that makes swallowing difficult to impossible if it gets too bad and I've made the choice to prevent it by eating healthier foods that wouldn't trigger it, as I was eating mostly processed only previously. Do you think the DASH diet would work for me too?

I strongly suggest seeing a dietitian. (I’d suggest this for anyone trying to fix a medical issue with their food, FYI) If you talked with your doctor about gerd, they’ll likely be able to point you in the right direction. When my husband was diagnosed with diabetes we got an appointment with a specialist that went over the best foods for his condition. I follow the dash diet as much as possible but it’s the guidelines from that dietician that’s basically my rule book.

Definitely second working with a dietician or nutrition specialist to get started. As someone with GERD and high blood pressure, I can say that OVERALL DASH was helpful to me. However there can be a lot different GERD triggers and it's helpful to work with someone. For me when I started dealing with GERD I was diagnosed by a GI and they put me on a daily antacid for 6 months to help my body heal while I got used to changing my diet. Not every product is safe for daily use so again, best to talk to a professional about options and how to move forward in a way that is safe and practical.
