Recipe adaptations to make them SCD
Recipe adaptations to make them SCD friendly:
- avoid recipes where the star ingredient is the carb (e.g. pasta dishes). Exception is rice where you can swap with cauliflower rice, but check to see if the flavours would still link.
- omit all sugar, honey, syrups, and sweeteners. Includes sugary flavour enhancers and sauces e.g. oyster sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce etc etc. and artificial sweeteners.
- omit dairy. If double cream, reduce to 2tbsp per portion. Butter is ok if pure butter (81% fat).
- swap out starches with non starch foods. E.g. rice with cauliflower rice. Spaghetti with courgette noodles. Check grain free pasta options e.g. Red Lentil Penne etc.
- if a meal is for example fajitas, adapt the contents to be SCD friendly, double them, and omit the carb.
- where a meal is pure keto, feel free to add a legume or bean of choice to bulk it out, as these are both ok and highly recommended on the Slow Carb Diet.
