How do I adapt to Mediterranean diet?

I want to try out Mediterranean diet due to some health issues but I really don't like seafood... I'm willing to try though! Can anyone give me advice on what else can I use as a source of proteins and are there some less fishy fishes? 🙃

Also, @Simona _ you might have more like digesting things like Beyond Meat products (the vegetable replacements for meat). It can be a bit pricey but the texture and flavor profile is definitely there.

lamb is a great meat source for Mediterranean dishes, particularly in gyros (I've had some beef gyros that taste great as well). also, chickpeas are great in almost everything and packed with protein.

Focusing on plant-based meals tends to be more in accordance with a true Mediterranean diet than eating lots of meat or seafood daily. Many times meat and seafood isn't consumed as often as you would think. I would try to incorporate more legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds along with lots of fresh produce.

Meat! Perfectly okay for Mediterranean diet

Thanks @Ofir! Meat had a primary role in my daily eating habits, but lately I don't seem to digest it as easily as before... I wanted to try out how I'd feel if I stay away from it for some time.

@simona got it! So next up is eggs, dairy and legumes. Crete and Greek food is full of great feta and goat cheese dishes. Chickpeas, lentils, beans are also good for protein. Just be sure to watch your B12 levels!

Seafood is pretty prominent but you can absolutely get by without it. Lean proteins work very well, especially poultry. I also cook pork as part of the diet occasionally, especially bacon and pancetta.

@Ben interesting to hear about Beyond Meat products! I've seen them here and there, but never thought to try them out...

I suggest making a Mediterranean spot in your kitchen. Include lots of olives, feta, good olive oil and Greek seasoning then make salads, chicken, beef and fish with these. Don't forget tomatoes and fresh greens.

Thanks guys, a lot of great suggestions! I always seem to forget about the chickpeas, they never made it to my regular shopping list, but added them this time! If you were to recommend a type of fish that doesn't have a distinct smell and taste, what would it be?

So, I eat like my Nordic and Hawai'ian ancestors. The main difference between traditional Nordic diets and mediterranian is canola oil and we have a very berry driven diet. I would suggest sticking to what's seasonal to where you are as well. 😊😊 We make a lot of soups with root vegitables as well, dairy makes a good stock, eggs and beans can be very fulfilling.

Lots of beans. Chick Peas, white beans, lentils, chicken breast. I don't love a lot of seafood either. I like shrimp, cod sometimes... hate salmon.
