Aside from Pillsbury Biscuits, what else would you suggest that can replace it in the recipe, but still make the entire thing delicious?

What about replacing it with pasta? I can imagine turning it into a delicious classic meatball pasta bake. 🍝 But if you want to replace it with a similar product, I read somewhere that scones are good substitute to biscuits, I just wouldn't know how I'll tweak the recipe until I experiment on it myself 😄

Rice is possible. However the better pairing would possibly be canned or homemade Croissant's.
