What makes a "good" mushroom?

I used to not like mushrooms, but then I had some great restaurant dishes and realized I just hadn't been eating good quality mushrooms. What should I look for when buying / trying?

I understand that a good mushroom is firm, dry and plump. I had thought that a closed veil on the mushroom meant freshness but I recently learned it does not. It has more to do with flavor - if a veil is closed (under the mushroom cap) the flavor will be more delicate, however if open (grills are exposed), the flavor will be richer.
