Do you have any homegrown ingredients that you often use in the kitchen?

I don't have garden but I grow basil, parsley and mint on my balcony. Great thing about growing herbs on a balcony is that you can grow them all year round - but it is super important to plant smart and in different pots. Some herbs are helping each other to grow if planted together (like mint + oregano), but you should avoid combining tall growing herbs with low growing herbs (like basil + mint). Bigger plants can overtake smaller herbs and it becomes competition. It super fun, you should try it + you always have fresh herbs for pasta, risotto or soup + your balcony smells like heaven! :) On the pic is my last balcony garden project: i got some cayenne pepper seeds from Spain and I enjoy watching them grow!

I am, unfortunately, not great at gardening, but I love it when my friends give me their surplus of citrus (oranges and lemons usually). The juice is nice to use in dressings or marinades, and the zest is also nice for adding "freshness" to other dishes (I love zest in baked goods and also mixed in to grain bowls). I am jealous of all the people who have summer tomatoes right now!

Yes, I have three homegrown ingredients that I often use. That is lemon, curry leaves and fresh coriander. Curry leaves are aromatic herbs, also called it "sweet neem leaves". For Indian cooking we use curry leaves for tempering and fresh coriander for garnishing.

@Cherry this is amazing! 😍It reminded me of a documentary I watched a while ago - that's the first time I heard that different plants can compliment each other and grow more efficiently together. I haven't had many luck with gardening so far, but I plan to try myself in this field again, and this is the approach I'll take this time!

Usually my garden consists of tomatoes, hot peppers, and fresh herbs. So, we like to make fresh salsa! πŸ˜‹
