Can I use brown lentils?

Hi all, I saw this yummy looking recipe the other day, and was wondering if I could *brown* lentil in place of the red or yellow lentils she uses. Partly bc I have a bunch at my house, but also bc I feel like I have a harder time finding different colors of lentil? Thanks!

Red lentils cook very quick, so if you want to substitute them, be aware that the cooking time will likely be longer. I don't see why you couldn't substitute them though.

I believe you can. Brown lentils may take longer to cook except if you soak them beforehand. The end product may not be as creamy as if you used red or yellow lentils but still delicious.

I prefer black, green, or brown lentils as the red and yellow turn to mush very easily (I'm not a mush fan). If you watch your cook time and expect different consistency you'll be good.
