I've made this twice now and both times the mash has been really sloppy! I used less milk this time and waited for the mash to cool before adding on top of the meat butnit still came out sloppy. Saying that it still tasted delicious. I would be interested to know if anyone has managed to cook it without sloppy mash on top?

You are on the right track. After boiling the potatoes make sure they are completely drained and dry of water. Then start mashing and add the milk slowly to get the consistency tou want.

Use biscuits on top instead and add potatoes to the beef mixture in place of the mashed topping if you like. Yum!
