Honestly, I just followed this loosely. Only used a pound of ground turkey and added oyster sauce since I didn't have tomato paste or worchestire. Added gochujang for a little spice. Also didn't bother with a thickening agent. Simmered down chicken stock and added bay leaves.
As recommended by someone else, I added grated parmesan to my mashed potatoes. Always add garlic powder and pepper as well. Sour cream was nice touch.
Premade both meat and potatoes separately and then constructed later on in an 8x8 dish. Covered with foil, baked for 25 minutes at 375 and then another 20-25 uncovered.
Next time, would like to up temp later on to crisp up potatoes even more and add a small layer of parm on top.
