Wondered if it would be worth the extra steps (just sausage mash and gravy would be fine) but the crispy potato topping with cheese was worth the baking. I pan fried the sausages whole together with the onions then added garlic and a chopped pepper, diced and cooked (in the microwave) carrots plus 300ml of gravy made with bisto granules. Then flung in a good amount of frozen peas. Snipped the sausages into thirds. Added far more than 40g of grated cheese over the mash (and was told that even more would be better still). Splashed over some lea and perrins. It was only just turning golden after being in the oven for 20 minutes so next time will bake for longer.
