Just a small correction with the spelling, it's 'hoender pastei'. "honde" means dogs, which are not something Afrikaaners tend to eat 😜. Hoender pastei is one of my favourite comfort foods from home. This recipe has quite alot of ingredients, traditionally they often a bit simpler, mine just has chicken, onion and mushrooms, with a similar sauce/gravy. Usually sago is added to soak up the juices because you don't want it too saucy, the filling needs to be fairly firm, some Aunties and Oumas even make it dry and crumbly.
