It's a classic for a reason but I'm not in a hurry to make it again. It's super rich and has more calories than I should have, but is it really worse than a grilled ham and cheese? Arguably, no, especially if you go heavy on the cheese in your usual grilled cheese. But it does have some extra steps. I would save it for a bistro themed lunch, use good crusty bread, and serve with a light, citrus dressed arugula salad and a sauvignon blanc or unoaked chardonnay. Edit: I should point out that I don't enjoy eggs, so mine was a croque monsieur, but I can see why other people like it with an egg.
