This was the first time I made tomato soup with fresh tomatoes and it was very good and pretty easy to make. I kept the vegetables on the bigger side rather than mincing because, I didn't want them to burn in the oven and I used my Vitamix instead of the immersion blender and that did a great job. I would suggest blending for several minutes on this one, even with a high powered blender, as there were pieces of tomato that didn't get blended on the first round.
