Maybe with the deglet dates try not soaking in hot water? This recipe turned out GREAT with the soaking but curious to try it without. Made 17 1 tbsp balls. I skipped the salt. For a pot luck, I would make this but with balls made only out of 1/2 tbsp of batter.
