If this is your first time making chili con carne from scratch give yourself an additional hour. Prep time is about an hour, not 15 mins. Not unless you’ve bought everything chopped. Cooking the meat in batches is necessary to get a good even color and that alone took me 20 min. I also added carrots to mine and cooked them with the peppers. Helps add a bit of balance without adding sugar. This is a great dish and I have enough to freeze for several other meals. I’ll also add that I have kids, so I took out one jalapeño and it still has a nice kick.
