Long, short story: I've been making this for years, but needed a recipe for my meal planner. Here is what i do different to feed 2 adults and 3 hungry teen boys: OMIT the brown sugar and nutmeg (i have never used that). I buy what ever sausage rings are on sale at the time, my favorite is the beef smoked sausage i have to use 2, thinking of using three (no left overs for breakfast if i use 2) I use one whole stick of butter per bag of egg noodles. One bag is enough depending on how you measure carb to protein ratio). I like more protein for the boys versus more carbs. I don't measure my minced garlic or salt and pepper (that is by sight). The more onions the better. I do this one in one pot. I cook the noodles first, while those are in the strainer, I cook the onions, sausage, and garlic with the butter, then add the noodles, let them warm back up and season with salt and pepper as liked (we are black pepper fans in this house). Lastly, it is great with a ketchup drizzle on the top (my husband thinks it gross, but it totally works).
