I decided to try to make it a little more 1-2 pot, so I cooked the bacon and onions together (and strained after). I used the bacon fat instead of butter for the garlic saute and used only one clove, slightly crushed, since we like the flavor only. I boiled the broccoli in salted water and used a slotted spoon to put it into a strainer. Then I cooked the penne in the broccoli water. I then transferred the broccoli back into the pot to reheat and strained the broccoli and penne together. The sauce was great, but next time I will either use less water or make a cornstarch slurry (like I did this time) to thicken it.
