Authentic. This tasted like the homemade schnitzel friends made when I was in Germany, without the grease. Another review said that it was bland. That made me realize this may be pretty authentic as that was my first reaction to what I had in Germany. BUT, after living there a while I learned a few things from eating Schnitzel at different houses: as the other review mentioned, season those breadcrumbs to taste! For me that was more salt. Second, grease, that’s another flavor source, so I sprayed my second batch with more spray on oil and it came out closer to the golden brown I’m used to. (I used olive oil, because that also has a flavor I like). Third, how well the meat is pounded, not too much and not too little—sorry I can’t describe it, this is just a visual for me. You want the meat nice and soft in the crunchy breadcrumb shell. The first batch for me was a learning lesson. The second came out terrific, juicy on the inside, crunchy exterior. However I was SO hungry I forgot to take a picture. I’ll add next time I make it.
