I skipped the kale because of personal preference. My kids all liked it well enough, but they didn't go back for seconds. We loved the veggies best. The broccoli was still crisp, but the potatoes were soft. I'm impressed that a vegetarian meal could taste this satisfying. I couldn't find tahini in the store, so I kinda made up my own from sesame seeds I had at home. Maybe because it was a home concoction, we found that we preferred the meal without the sauce.
