I have a dairy allergy, so I sub butter for vegan butter and sub heavy cream with homemade cashew cream (1 part soaked and drained cashews to 1 part water).
This recipe is versatile and can stand up to a few modifications if you prefer. For example, my included photo is turkey meatballs (instead of beef) served over egg noodles with added peas (cooked separately and tossed in at the end).
If you are making this with pasta: save some pasta water! The sauce can get a little thick and needs the starch from the pasta water to help it stick to the pasta. Save 1 cup of pasta water and use it a little at a time until you achieve the consistency you want (may not use all of it).
This meal is always a hit in our house!
