I have never soaked fruit for a cake for so long. I soaked my fruit for 2 weeks. Soaking the fruit made the cake very moist and surprisingly, given the quantity of alcohol in the recipe, it didn't taste overly alcoholic. We all enjoyed the cake and would make again, perhaps as a less rich alternative to Christmas cake.
