For the cake donuts
1 ¾ cupsall-purpose flour
⅔ cupsdark cocoa powder
1 ½ cupsbrown sugar
1 teaspoonbaking powder
1 teaspoonbaking soda
1 teaspoonsalt
2eggs
1 cupbuttermilk
2 teaspoonsvanilla extract
½ cupbutter
melted
For the icing
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350° and prepare donut pan by spraying with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3
In a medium-sized bowl, add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, and cooled melted butter. Whisk until well combined.
Step 4
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until fully incorporated.
Step 5
Transfer donut batter into a piping bag or large Ziploc bag and pipe into prepared donut pans. Pipe batter until it fills the donut pan halfway.
Step 6
Bake in preheated oven for 14-16 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 7
Remove from oven and let cool in pans for 3-5 minutes. Remove from pans and set aside for icing.
Icing
Step 8
While the donuts are baking, make the icing.
Step 9
In a microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate wafers, butter, corn syrup, and water. Microwave on high for 20-second intervals, stirring after each time, until the mixture is completely melted.
Step 10
Dip each donut into the chocolate icing and then dip into the Jimmie sprinkles. Repeat with each donut and then place on a wire rack to allow the icing to dry. Enjoy.
