Step 1
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter and sprinkle some flour inside, shaking off any excess.

2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.

3. In another bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat together the butter and brown sugar until it becomes pale and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract. Then, add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition.

4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in 3 batches, alternating with water (in 2 batches).
Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix until combined.

5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 45 minutes. Check if the cake is done by gently pressing the top; it should spring back, and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about an hour. Then carefully invert it onto a serving plate.
Step 7
7. Melt the oil and dark chocolate together in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Whisk until well combined. Spread this mixture over the top of the cake for icing.
