Vinegar and Sugar Salad Dressing plus variations
1. Classic Sweet & Tangy Dressing (Oil-Based)
This is a common "Grandma" style dressing, perfect for leafy greens or cucumbers.
1/2 cup Vegetable oil
1/2 cup Apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup White sugar (or to taste)
1/2 tsp Salt
Optional: 1/4 tsp ground mustard or pepper
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
Shake vigorously until the sugar is dissolved and the dressing is well blended.
Chill in the refrigerator. Shake again before serving.
2. Simple "No-Oil" German Style
MADE IT *****
I added - tumeric, dried onion, garlic & parsley, protein powder
A very traditional, light dressing that is very low-calorie and brings out the flavor of fresh vegetables.
1/4 cup White vinegar/ ACV
1/4 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Water
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Whisk or shake ingredients together until sugar is completely dissolved.
3. Creamy Old-Fashioned Dressing
A slightly richer, creamy version often used in the 1970s and 80s for salad.
300 ml Cream
2 tbsp White vinegar
2 tsp Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Mustard powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Mix the sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper with the vinegar to form a paste.
Slowly mix in the cream until smooth.
Pour over lettuce and let it sit for a few hours before serving.
Tips for Success
Dissolving Sugar: If you have trouble getting the sugar to dissolve, slightly warm the vinegar before adding the sugar.
Consistency: The oil-based version will separate in the fridge, so always shake it well before serving.
Variations: You can replace white sugar with honey or maple syrup for a different flavor profile.
