Red Sour Cherry filled Rum Balls

Traditional Slovak rum balls served at Christmas time

Step 1

Place Maria cookies into a food processor and grind them up

Step 2

Add ground walnuts and cocoa to ground cookies and mix

Step 3

Add butter to mixture

Step 4

Add spiced rum and syrup to mixture, blend until combined

Step 5

Strain syrup from Cherries into a bowl

Step 6

To make the same size balls, use a small cookie scoop (1 Tbsp/15 ml) to scoop out a small amout

Step 7

Flatten in the palm of your hand and place a cherry in the middle. Wrap the cookie mixture around the cherry and roll in your hands to form a ball.

Step 8

For decorating, you can roll in cocoa or ground walnuts
