Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 8in round cake pans and line each with parchment paper so the sponges won't stick.
Step 2
Place the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract in a large bowl and sift the flour and baking powder. Using a electric mixer or whisk beat all the ingredients together until thick.
Step 3
Divide the mixture between the two pans, leveling the tops of with the back of a spoon . Bake in the center of the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
Step 4
Let the cakes cool in the pan for a few minutes, then turn them into a cooling rack and let cool completely
For the buttercream
Step 5
To make the buttercream place the butter, confectioners sugar, vanilla extract and milk in a mixing bowl. Beat them together with a spoon until smooth and creamy
