Thankyou all, have bought a sala to substitute, hopefully it tastes good. This is my first time cooking a meal on my own and living alone. My grocery cart cost $200 and because I needed other necessities. Wish me luck :)

I believe it is a type of Mexican relish containing jalapeño peppers. I'd Google it for the exact ingredients. I suspect salsa would suffice

It's a salsa or taco sauce. If i recall, ortega is technically a picante sauce. I think the word means "mild" but I don't know 100%. If you're ever confused by an ingredient, and the substitutions list doesn't pop up when you click on an ingredient in these recipes (this one had no alternatives), google it and ignore any AI generated response as the very first result- they are notoriously wrong and in some cases can cause lethal damage!!

Picante just translates to spicy so any spicy tomato based salsa or sauce works. If you don't want it chunky just put it in a blender. Pico de Gallo works also. It's just a taco bowl put whatever you want with it like you were building your own taco.

Picante is basically salsa, like what that you would dip tortilla chips in at a mezican restaurant. There are many good brands even generic can be good. Just look for those with fewer ingredients and ones that you can read
