Has anyone tried to make it this way?

This looks really good (and easy!) and we all love Italian dressing so I am going to give it a shot! I have a large family so I will be doubling everything but worried that 2 lbs of dry pasta might not cook as evenly in the oven. So I'm thinking about parboiling the pasta then letting it finish in the oven with the other ingredients. Has anyone tried it this way by any chance? Even if you haven't, as an experienced cook does this sound like it would work? Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help! I am not the best cook and have zero confidence in myself, especially when it comes to making new things! 😂

I'm always cautious when a recipe says to add liquid to dry pasta, or noodles(to some people they are different things), and then bring it to a boil. I have seen them turn right back into the flour they are made of. Definitely parboil first. To about 1/2 done. Otherwise, it looks ok to me.

i'm wary of block of cream cheese recipes but i think boiling the pasta separately could be a safe way to go. i would be cautious around the liquid added to the oven dish if you don't want soupy pasta! a flour roux w stock and cream/cream cheese could work for a thicker sauce?

I would just make 2 pans instead of doubling in one. You will get better results!

This whole dish sounds terrible. Whenever a dish asks for premade dressing or powder dressing mix I personally skip it because any decent home cook should have this stuff on hand but yes there is so much moisture being baked in to raw pasta it should be fine.

Oh but yes if you double it just make sure you have a pan that can hold it all not too thick and it should work out.
