I used yellow split peas (they have to be soaked to soften).
Start with a large pot. I used microwaveable kale. I added powdered bay leaf, spicy paprika and lots of granulated garlic. I did not puree the soup. I left if chunky. Came out great. Served it with ciabatta bread Very filling.
The curry left a lingering scent. I boiled lemongrass to get rid of the odor.
