Saute the onions in the saucepan first. Spicier sausage works well (used Hemplers Andouille sausage). Saute sliced sausage with onions. Chop the kale & microwave until you steam the water out (I coarsely chopped & microwaved on high, uncovered, in a shallow pan for approx 4 mins). Let the kale cool until it hardens, then crush it by hand into smaller pieces. Let it re-hydrate in the soup before serving. I used the potato masher to break up the potatoes instead of an immersion blender or a regular blender.
