I made my own chinese five spice and next time I will use a little less aniseed. I used star anise, but still need a little less next time. This isn't your average restaurant style fried rice. But it is still pretty good. I did not add chicken to it. I used brown rice and cooked it in the instant pot. Once done, I added frozen carrots, bell peppers, onions, green beans and peas. Then cooked it all with a bit more water for another few minutes, until everything was thawed and heated through. Then stirred it all together and added scrambled eggs and scallions (green onions) and used it for a side dish with bourbon chicken. Altogether really good. Probably won't make it again, but that's more because I like traditional fried rice.
