I should have fallowed what I know is the best cooking method instead of following the directions exactly, but I was trying something new. Reduce the water for the sauce by half, and don’t use reduced sodium soy sauce unless you cut the sugar in half. After you sear the steak, remove it from the pan and cook the sauce on its own. Don’t stir the garlic and ginger in the sauce, but rather sauté them in the pan for a minute before adding the sauce, and simmer the sauce for about 3 minutes or until thickened. Then add back the steak, cook for a minute, add back the broccoli, stir everything together and cook for another minute.
