I did make adaptatipns: used beef stock, used black beans instead of cannellini beans, fresh chopped tomatoes instead of canned and added 8 oz sliced mushrooms. This soup develops more flavor overnight. I added more thyme as it finished cooking. The next day I added a little more in reheating. Usually I love red chili flakes. The first day I added when serving,but the spice was overpowering. The second day I did not add the red pepper flakes. The subtle flavors were enjoyable.
