The instructions say to spread the topping evenly "as best you can." Once I made the topping, I realized it's a dough. It's thick enough to manipulate, but "spreading" it isn't really going to happen. I ended up flattening pieces by hand and laying them over the filling, jigsaw puzzle style.
Next time, I will try forming it into a ball, maybe brushing it with some oil, and rolling it out in one piece.
That said, the topping was the best part. I'll double the Ranch seasoning in the future. And add mushrooms to the filling, or maybe soy sauce. It definitely needs umami.
